Overview

The Uttarkashi area of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas is home to Har Ki Dun, often known as the Valley of Gods. Har Ki Dun, at 3,500 meters, is among the most breathtaking river valley hikes in the nation. You are always in awe of the diverse flora and fauna, breathtaking scenery, charming towns nestled into the mountains, and enormous, broad meadows. Alongside the magnificent Supin River, the hike passes across bridges that span crystal-clear streams that meander through picturesque Garhwalian settlements.

The scenery of the Har Ki Dun route is known to change with the seasons. The valley has nice temperatures in the spring and summer. There is a lovely variety of fauna to be spotted, and flowers are in full bloom. The valley receives snowfall every few weeks as winter approaches, turning the valley’s verdant features into pure white.

Seeing the pinnacle of Har Ki Dun is a treat. A clear day will show off the snow-capped peaks of Hata Peak, Black Peak, and Swargarohini Peak. This moderately difficult hike offers a lot of different things to enjoy, including vistas of massive mountain ranges, alpine flowers, open meadows, and dense coniferous forests.

The walk, which is about 67 miles long, starts in Uttarakhand’s charming village of Sankri. We’ll use a motorable road to get us to Taluka. The trail follows the Supin River’s waters from Taluka to Pauni Garaat. Along the route, you’ll pass through a tunnel of walnut, pine, and cedar trees that open up to huge fields of corn and potatoes. A bit further on is the Pauni Garaat Campsite, set in a beautiful clearing beside the Supin River.

The grade of the trek gets higher the next day as we make our way to the 8-kilometer-distance Kalkattiyadhaar. The Supin River flows alongside you as you travel through lush amaranth fields and deep oak woodlands. Along the journey, look for areas that compensate for some outstanding vantage points that give breathtaking views of the Banderpoonch and Swargarohini ranges. You may reach the expansive open meadow of Kalkattiyadhaar campground, nestled in a valley with pine and oak trees, after a four-hour stroll.

We are going to be climbing from the camping at Kalkattiyadhaar to the summit the next day. We have 14 km to cover, so be ready for an early start. There will be moderate ascents and descents during the day’s walk. The trail ascends farther through a dense woodland to reach the impressive top of Har Ki Dun. From here, you can see the snow-covered Swaragrohini Peak, Hata Peak, and Black Peak.
